Next stop will be Canada

After spending two years in Ireland, I decided I had enough of Guinness, Bushmills and mashed potatoes! I have been accepted by McGill University in Montreal to pursue my doctoral studies (yes mum, I am a PhD candidate now.. not a little boy anymore). I will be joining the Computational Acoustic Modelling Laboratory in the Music Technology Area of the Schulich School of Music. More information about this new adventure soon!

I am currently working on my MA thesis here in Belfast, where the sun has decided to smile at us again! Belfast is beautiful when sunny.. My thesis? Oh well, the title is “Physics-based Synthesis of the Piano: An Investigation into the Effect of Stiffness on the Hammer-String Interaction”. Do not ask anything further. No comments. lolipop.

about Chess and its recordings

There are two recordings of Chess that stand above all others, and -as mat366 in youtube remarks- “where the true art of this show lies”: first of all the Original Concept Album – which is what we usually mean when referring to the Original London Cast of Chess. It is in this recording that you can find the complete (and best) orchestral version of the Chess theme. An extraordinary orchestral piece performed in this album strongly and passionately, being the only full version. In all other recordings there is either one shorter version or two seperate shorter version. And then of course comes the amazing Complete Cast Album, which is the best recording of Chess as a whole. Now the Bway production failed.. why? think..

What did they except when they decided to change the story and make it a happy end for the American?? It was bound to fail because of that.. considering also the fact that story and plot were never a strong part of Chess. It is the music however that makes it one of the most thrilling musical theatre experiences. I still consider it to be the best musical score, far distinguished from Evita or Miss Saigon. Kristina Fran Duvemala came to confirm this special talent of the two Bs from ABBA. Now just think, would Kristina survive Bway or West End? Possibly not. And I prefer it this way. Cats or Les Mis have been running for ages, true. But in terms of music, their scores are almost indifferent when compared with Chess or Kristina.

I feel so sad I missed Chess in Concert in London two weeks ago.

Κουβέρ και … Πονηριές

“Πήγαμε να φάμε, σε κεντρικό εστιατόριο. Όταν ήρθε ο λογαριασμός, πρόσεξα ότι μου είχαν χρεώσει κουβέρ. Διαμαρτυρήθηκα και μου το αφαίρεσαν, από το λογαριασμό”.

“Στο λογαριασμό, μου χρέωσαν ψωμί, που δεν είχα παραγγείλει. Όταν διαμαρτυρήθηκα, μου απάντησαν ότι το ψωμί αντικατέστησε το κουβέρ και η χρέωσή του είναι πολιτική της επιχείρησης”.

Είναι καταγγελίες, που δεχόμαστε, τις τελευταίες μέρες, όλο και συχνότερα, στο ΚΕ.Π.ΚΑ. Για το λόγο αυτό, ενημερώνουμε τους Καταναλωτές:

* Σύμφωνα με την 1/7.5.2007 αγορανομική διάταξη, που ισχύει, από τις 24 Μαΐου 2007, τα κέντρα και τα καταστήματα εστίασης, αναψυχής, ψυχαγωγίας και διασκέδασης δεν επιτρέπεται να χρεώνουν, στην πελατεία τους, το λεγόμενο ΚΟΥΒΕΡ (σερβίτσια, μαχαιροπήρουνα, πετσέτες, οδοντογλυφίδες κ.λπ.).
* Σύμφωνα με τις αγορανομικές διατάξεις, για τα καταστήματα εστίασης, όλα τα προσφερόμενα είδη (ψωμί, ψωμί με βούτυρο, ψωμί με πατέ ελιάς, εμφιαλωμένο νερό, που πολλές φορές, το τελευταίο χρονικό διάστημα, από τη στιγμή, που καταργήθηκε το κουβέρ, χρεώνονται, αντί του κουβέρ) αναγράφονται, υποχρεωτικά, στους τιμοκαταλόγους, με τις αντίστοιχες τιμές τους. Ο πελάτης μπορεί να τα παραγγείλει, όπως όλα τα υπόλοιπα είδη. Κατά συνέπεια, οποιαδήποτε ενέργεια του καταστηματάρχη να χρεώσει είδη, όπως ψωμί, ψωμί με βούτυρο, εμφιαλωμένο νερό κ.λπ., που ο πελάτης δεν έχει παραγγείλει, αποτελεί παράβαση της νομοθεσίας.

Το ΚΕ.Π.ΚΑ. καλεί τους Καταναλωτές να ελέγχουν τους λογαριασμούς τους και να αρνούνται να πληρώσουν κουβέρ ή “μεταλλαγμένο” κουβέρ.
